Bridgecraft's Weathervane

At Bridgecraft we are incredibly lucky to have many customers that come back time and time again over the decades. Some have become our dear friends and part of the Bridgecraft family.

Mick Harbour and his family are a prime example. Sadly, Mick passed away in December 2019 but a piece of his legacy lives on at Bridgecraft with the Weathervane proudly on the boat shed's roof.

Diane & Craig holiday at Bridgecraft every year and kindly shared some of their favourite family photos from their Bridgecraft holidays over the years below.

Mick Harbour and the Windsor Bridge

Weathervane on the roof of Bridgecraft Boatyard

Written by Mick & Shirley's daughter, Diane Stocker...

My parents, Mick and Shirley, were first introduced to the Broads by my brother and had their first Norfolk Broads boating holiday in 1987 and hired their first Bridgecraft boat in 1988.

Mick and Shirley holidayed at least twice a year on the broads, always with the excellent Bridgecraft hire company and had probably hired almost every boat in their fleet over the 20 plus years of cruising. Their first boat was the Westminster Bridge and they cruised with my brother for the first couple of years.

During those 20 plus years Mum and Dad got to know the Bedwell family really well and always enjoyed sharing stories on pick up and handover days.

Dad surprised us one day by appearing out of his shed with a weathervane in the shape of Tower Bridge, he had been secretly making. The Tower Bridge was the first boat that Mum and Dad had on their own and, and one of Dad’s favourites.

Dad made one for the boatyard and one for themselves, ours is still in Mum’s garden and my brother now has the original template.

Unfortunately we do not have any photos of this being made but we have a close up from the one in the garden and of course the one at the boatyard.

Dad’s passion for The Broads never diminished even after they stopped their boating holidays due to their age. In 2015 Mark and Stephanie very kindly let us have the Windsor Bridge for a trip out to give Dad one last time out on the water.

Our love for The Broads remains a constant, with my brother having moved to Norfolk and we still holiday with Bridgecraft continuing to make many more wonderful memories on their fantastic fleet.
